Relief & Assistance
Early this month we learned of a particularly serious case that was brought to us by the Consulate in SF. The Consulate had received word of an 87 year old Brit who had been receiving emergency care at a local hospital. She had been discovered living in vile conditions where she had suffered from neglect. A therapist at the hospital contacted the Consulate, hoping to help put her patient in contact with family. Working with the Consulate, the BBS helped cover the costs of a new passport, basic necessities and repatriation. She was reconnected with family in the UK and has returned home where she is safe and spending the holidays with family.
The Consulate in SF also notified us about Abigail who suffered a severe stroke while on holiday near Yosemite. She has been in hospital since October and is not fit to fly. Her family in the UK is desperately trying to raise funds to cover the cost of a medical flight home. The BBS has made a donation directly to Abigail’s family. For further information, visit her GoFundMe page.
Lastly, the Relief Committee provided financial relief to a longtime British resident of SF by covering her rent. She was recently made redundant from her position in the tech industry. Her request for assistance is a reminder of how vulnerable all of us can be upon losing a job. Thank you, as always, to all of our members for your financial support and dedication to the mission of the organization. Without you, we would not be able to provide this invaluable help.
Annual Christmas Dinner
Thank you to all who joined us at our annual Christmas dinner. As always, this event is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season. We raised a record amount of over $1000 in our raffle! Thank you to all of our guests for purchasing tickets. The proceeds of the raffle will continue to help foster our efforts to provide aid and relief to those most in need.
A special thank you to Bespoke Collection for donating the amazing wine from Blackbird Vineyards. Donations offer a tremendous help in keeping our ticket prices at an accessible cost. Once again, the evening was made even more special by the amazing a cappella performance from Pitch Please and they did not disappoint!
