This event has ended.
The Drake Navigators Guild (DNG) was founded in 1949 to follow up on the research of Professor George Davidson in locating the landing of Sir Francis Drake in 1579, the first British claim of what eventually became the USA. Because of their efforts, Drake’s Nova Albion claim was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in 2012.
Join the DNG and the BBS on Saturday the 29th of June to walk the area discovered by Sir Francis Drake and his crew! We will meet at the Bear Valley Visitors Centre for a short presentation about the discovery of Drakes Bay. Following the presentation you will have time for a bring-your-own picnic lunch and then the group will hike to the cove. The hike is on a path shown on the accompanying photos and is approximately 1.5 hours each way. The terrain is unpredictable and uneven but we hope that the walk can accommodate all who are interested in attending.
There is no cost to join the event and all ages are welcome. If you do plan to bring a pet for the event, be sure to check the national park pet rules and regulations.
Please contact Jenn Baker for questions regarding the presentation and hike. Registration is not necessary but we welcome any indication of those who plan to attend.
